Confederation Park

Confederation Park is a recognized historic resource and one of Calgary’s significant cultural landscapes. The park was dedicated in 1967 to mark the centennial of Canadian Confederation and the City of Calgary is excited to update the park’s accessibility in recognition of Canada’s 150th and the Park’s 50th anniversary.

A Barrier Buster grant from the Rick Hansen Foundation will go towards the design and installation of way-finding and interpretative signage for blind or low vision visitors. The signage will include accessible sensory features like tactile raised text and Braille. The signs will be installed at key points within the park and will allow all visitors to fully participate and enjoy this beautiful public space.

   The City of Calgary is committed to ensuring that all Calgarians, including anyone living with a disability, are welcome to participate and enjoy City events, services and programs. An accessible city benefits everyone!

2. How is this project going to make a difference in your community?

   The accessible interpretative signage at Confederation Park will ensure that all Calgarians can freely and safely learn more about the history of Confederation Park. This project will provide all Calgarians with the ability to fully participate in the social, cultural, and recreational activities taking place in Confederation Park throughout the year.

   This is an opportunity to showcase our commitment to ensuring that all Calgarians have the ability to enjoy public parks.
