The Onoway Heritage Centre & Museum facility is a recommissioned elementary school repurposed for community use. It houses the public library, a play school, meeting rooms, and a church. Approximately 42,000 people came through its doors last year to use its many spaces and participate in groups such as Girl Guides, Scouts, and Cadets, or activities including Jujitsu, yoga, and music lessons. It’s a busy place that needs to accommodate people of all ages and abilities.
We felt adding automatic door openers and levelling the cement at the entrance would make our building accessible to all.
As all age groups visit the facility, having easier access will just make life better for all those who have been struggling to enter our facility.
The best thing will be watching those arriving in wheelchairs or using walkers, and young mothers with infants in strollers, entering and exiting with ease.
